Health Emergency due to Dengue in Santa Catarina

In Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, a health emergency has been declared due to an outbreak of dengue. Mayor Jesús Nava reported on a cleanup, de-junking, and fumigation operation in various neighborhoods of the municipality. It has started with weeding, fumigation, and the collection of junk to prevent the spread of the disease.

The municipality of Santa Catarina is the third in the state with the most cases of dengue, and since Nuevo León has risen to third place nationally in the incidence of the disease, the administration took the measure of declaring a health emergency. Mayor Nava communicated the situation through his social media, calling for the community's cooperation.

The cleanup and fumigation operation will take place in different neighborhoods, starting with Infonavit Huasteca, and then in Lomas de Santa Catarina, Mártires de Cananea, and Bosques de La Huasteca on specific dates. Mayor Nava urged citizens to dispose of junk and objects that can accumulate water, breeding grounds for the dengue-transmitting mosquito, to prevent the proliferation of the disease.

Although health authorities indicate a downward trend in the number of dengue cases, Nuevo León has seen an increase in statistics, ranking third nationally with 5,772 sick individuals. The Health Secretary indicates that nine deaths have occurred in the state, but there is no hospital saturation as in other regions. In the epidemiological week number 35, the highest peak of cases was reached.
